Do you ever feel like you eat, but never get full? Do you often crave brownies or chocolate late at night? That was me until I learned about these healthy snacks.
I just had my 4th baby and I’ve been extremely hungry and painfully thirsty all the time. I need constant nourishment, but I don’t have a lot of time or energy to make 6 or more meals a day. My sister Dixie came for a visit and gave me some great ideas of how to get more protien in my diet which has helped me finally feel full.
My cupboards are stocked with these items for snacking and I’ve been very satisfied the past few weeks, whereas before the hunger wouldn’t go away.
- 6 (4 oz) cups of water a day
- Light Dannon yogurt (3 large tubs)
- 1 (16 oz) container cottage cheese (this is power food when mixed with yogurt and you add 1/2 cup of Kashi Heart to Heart cereal on top.)
- 5 dozen eggs (to scramble, boil or cook however you like)
- String cheese and crackers
- Jerky (12 g protein per ounce!)
- Saltines or Wheat Thin crackers to eat with my string cheese.
- Almonds (salted, plain or smoked…they are all delicious)

Doctors CarbRite Diet bars (sugar free, no hydrogenated oils, no artificial sweetners) I’ve tried all the flavors, but I only like Toasted Coconut (similar to a Mounds candybar) and I the mint chocolate brownie bars. They are a real treat. I ordered them from this site: http://www.allstarhealth.com/ At Good Earth, these bars are $1.25 each, but we do not live close to a Good Earth. I paid $28.10 plus $3.50 shipping for 24 bars. Pricey, but I’m not snacking as much on other goodies, bread, or anything else I use to grab from the cupboards. And I’m getting full and I feel guilt free when I eat a CarbRite bar for a late night snack…that is the best part.
When nothing else works to curb the craving, I eat a dark chocolate Dove Promise and then I am satisfied.
Anyway, I have been feeling great (satisfied for hours) and am losing the baby weight quickly with these power protein snacks lots of fruits and vegetables and healthy meals from my cookbook. I also teach Zumba three times a week. Hopefully I will be able to get back in my jeans some day. For now, leggings and long baby doll shirts are my wardrobe. Please share your nutrition tricks with me if you know of anything else that helps you stay full, is healthy and tastes good.
Thanks for the tidbits on eating healthy and exercising. I still love playing racquetball and doing yoga and exercise tapes. The nutrious snacks sound good. Julie
I just wanted to warn you about yogurt. You need to look carefully and read the labels. So many of them have high-fructose corn syrup in them. Also, beware if it is watered down with milk and then thickened with cornstarch or gelatin. It will not contain as many of the probiotics that way. Read labels!
Thanks Karen! I forgot to state that I like to buy the large containers of light Yoplait yogurt. Most yogurts have over 30 grams of sugar per serving. The light Yoplait is the perfect sweetness for me. What kind of yogurt do you recommend?
Love these Ideas! thanks, Jenny!!!
